Temporary Workshop Cover – Thorpe Park

Background

Based in Chertsey, Surrey, Thorpe Park is one of the UK's leading theme parks and an attraction in the Tussauds Group. As one of the World's leading visitor attraction businesses, the Group attracts up to 15 million customers a year and includes the international Madame Tussauds, the British Airways London Eye, Alton Towers and precisely targeted regional leaders like Heide Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Warwick Castle.

Requirement

Every year The Park is closed to the public over the winter months from early November until the end of February. The Park's engineering team are able to make full use of this time carrying out essential maintenance and refurbishment on rides and machinery. Due to the obvious inclement weather experienced in the winter period, they require cover to protect the equipment and provide a clean dry environment for their engineers to operate in, thus ensuring the projects are completed in time for the re-opening in March.

Solution

GL events Snowdens Storage Solutions provided covered workshop areas in the form of 2 tents, 6m wide by 15m long and 9m wide by 15m long. Both structures had the flexibility of extendable legs, which was essential to this particular assignment given the nature of The Park and height of the rides being worked on. The structures were leased for the required period of 4 months.

Benefit

As Thorpe Park have a limited window of four months to carry out this essential work, it is vital they are able to complete the maintenance with as little disruption as possible. Being able to protect themselves and equipment from the main source of disruption experienced at that time of year, ie the weather, the assignment was completed efficiently and effectively in the given time. The Park met its opening day deadline with all the rides and machinery having undergone their necessary winter maintenance.
