The Willow Festival, Peterborough 2012

We are pleased to announce that we are to become one of the main sponsors for The Willow Festival 2012, held at the Peterborough Embankment.

The Willow Festival returns after a nine year hiatus and will be held over the last weekend of May 2012. The 3 day event will showcase 120 live bands and aims to attract in excess of 50,000 visitors to the Peterborough Embankment, it’s traditional venue. TWF became the largest free live music festival in Europe back in 2003 and has every intention of regaining that status for the City Of Peterborough in 2012.

We have been sponsors of TWF from its humble beginnings; we have been a strong supporter throughout.

Keith Bishop, Director at Snowdens said “As a Peterborough based company we always endeavour to do what we can to support local events in City. We did not hesitate when the opportunity came up to work closely with Mark Ringer and his team again. The festival is free for everybody to attend, it’s run entirely by volunteers, provides a boost for the local economy and prestige for the city. We applaud this and are delighted to show our continued support”.

The Willow Festival organiser Mark Ringer said “Snowdens has yet again showed their generous support and it’s much appreciated, especially when taking in to account the current financial climate. TWF cannot exist without this type of sponsorship and it’s a credit to Peterborough companies that they understand the value of the festival to the area and get behind it. Snowdens is a leader in their field and to be able to rely on their expertise and professionalism is a great help to us as event organisers”.

Temporary Clubhouse for Royal St. George's during the 140th British Open Golf

We are proud to have worked with Planit Events to supply a 12m x 40m Absolute Double Decker Pavilion to the Open Golf hosted by Royal St George's, Sandwich Kent. The structure acted as an extension to Club house for the Members and their guests. A bar was open inside all day and Members were able to book tables for lunch to entertain guests, friends and family. A further 12m x 15m Absolute Pavilion was supplied to bolster the ground floor capacity.

William Bailey of Planit Events commented "The double decker was admired by all of our guests. GL events paid the highest attention to detail throughout the job and the finish both inside and out was fantastic, in particular the internal linings."

We have recently been awarded SAFE contractor certification

SAFE contractor promotes higher standards of competence and compliance through the provision of relevant industry specific and tailored health and safety assessments for all professions and sectors. Owen Brown was assessed by the scheme before being awarded with the certificate and will undergo an annual assessment.

Simon Wood, Operations Director comments "We are keen to raise the industry standard, ensuring our site staff lead the field in this vital aspect. The SAFE contractor scheme provides us the opportunity to further train our site staff and move forward achieving additional qualifications. This will enable them to work more efficiently and safely on site and anticipate that over the coming months our clients will start to see the benefits of this".

BS 8901 Certification

We are presently working towards achieving BS 8901 certification. This is the British Standard for sustainable event management and is the next step for our organisation to take following the launch of the 'Think Green' campaign for the environment back in 2010.

As part of this process we are looking at ways to improve the impact that our business has on the environment, society and economy. . This includes how we operate in the office, at our depots and on event sites.

From small gestures like paper and water wastage to larger initiatives such as reducing haulage and improving event waste recycling.

We aim to have external 3rd party certification by early 2012.

By working towards BS 8901 this year it stands us in a great position to adopt ISO 20121, when it replaces BS 8901 next year. ISO 20121 will be a new international standard promoting the sustainable management of events; it is expected to be finalised in 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics.

As we operate internationally it would be a great accolade to have this international standard and we hope that this will demonstrate worldwide that we are committed to continually improving and becoming a sustainable organisation.
